The course

The venue is the idyllic Conrhenny Community Woodland on the outskirts of Douglas here on the beautiful Isle of Man.

The course whilst relatively short is designed to offer a variety of terrains from wide forest roads to sweeping single track and boardwalks through the trees and offers some of the best views of the surrounding countryside.

Three main principles:

  1. Raise money for local charities
  2. Have Fun
  3. Organise a successful event

Since its inception in 2010, the LDLR has helped raise over £40,000 for local charities, something the small team of organisers is very proud.

A testament to the success of the event and its popularity can be read in some of our testimonials by previous competitors. In 2018 the event played host to the British Solo 24 Hour Championships attracting a large number of off-island competitors including British, European and World Champions.

LDLR reviews

I’ve managed to take part in three of these events, and every time without fail, we as a team have loved it. When we first looked into it, we took a look at the course and thought, “this course isn’t so hard.” but that’s the beauty, short but with enough pain to enable you to go for 24 hours, but it WILL hurt!! Ha-ha. A special shout out to Gary & Clare for all their hard work. Great event, run by people who love mountain biking. A great way to catch up with like-minded people and have a bit of a race against them!

Karl Parker – Peel Mountain Bikers “This course isn’t so hard!”

Before the start, I was conscious of being the only non-Manx man who had travelled to the event, but the welcome I got was unreal, the Manx people were fantastic, not least Clare Cooper with her constant encouragement. Well done to Gary Cooper and Loaghtan Loaded for a top-class event, also thanks to Conister Bank for sponsorship. I can see this race becoming more popular in the coming years. I’m surprised a lot more people do not travel to this.

Ger Jackson – “The toughest race ever, The best race ever! I’ll be back!“

The LDLR is the main event I look forward to every year, all levels of Competitors compete in this event from pro to me, everyone is super friendly and helpful and all riders, Marshall’s and spectators keep everyone’s spirits up during the whole event. The atmosphere at this event is second to none and I highly recommend getting in an entry and giving it a go. Hail, rain or snow we go.

James Mcallister - “36 and slightly slow and chubby”

Bikes, camping and a few beers with mates... what more could you want from a weekend?

An event I always look forward too and one of the best events of the year for both keen racers and the more social cyclists alike, this is an event for everyone!

Jim Marshall

The LDLR is a fantastic event, organised by a very enthusiastic team led by Gary.  The course may be compact, but its quality single track makes it unquestionably one of the best courses per km.

I will definitely be back for more MTB fun on this beautiful Island!

I'm particularly looking forawrd to LDLR'21. Its been such and age since we had chance to stretch our 24hr legs.  After various posponements of other events, THE one that matters IMHO is threatening to be probably the best 24hr event in ages.  There has been much heavy work put in by the irrepresable Gadge and his heavily motivated teams on the Conrhenny course.  SO much new stuff and in face a complete revamp.  This new course would be fully up to spec to host anything I've seen after much competing off Island.  Really stoked to get involved especially when it all kicks off in June, fingers crossed.
I've probably completed the most miles and laps around LDLR so this will be so much worth waiting for.  Fantastic organisation, so friendly and supportive and this year the e-bike class which will definately add to the event.  You set your own challenges and if you don't fancy being alone then why not enter a team, it's how I started and I've never looked back.  However as the famous Peter Nadin says "always solo never alone".  Go on give it a go, whats not to like.
'Big love' Adrian

Where else can you race as mountain bike expert or beginner on track alongside world and national champions, at the same time as a bloke in denim hot pants on a Raleigh Chopper with a Magnum PI ‘tache ?!?”  So good I came back to the island to spectate and support the following year just for the fun of it.  Having raced 24 hours events around the globe at all levels from beginner to world champion, I can honestly say that LDLR is an event worth adding to your bucket list whatever your ability, as a team, pair or as a solo.  The event itself is fantastic, so well organised, personal yet professional, on an all weather course and with an incredible welcome from Gary and his team of organisers.  You will not be disappointed.  Probably one of the best ways you could possibly celebrate a summer solstice.  Worth doing for the final hours fancy dress competition laps alone.

Peter Nadin

My journey with LDLR started about 9 years ago, receiving a rather panicked call off Gary Cooper.  About 100 tonnes of stone tipped in the carpark at Conrhenny and being told to have it shifted by the Monday, well understandably a panicked man.
Anyway, a few more calls and we had a plan together and the right ejjits landed on site and successfully had everything moved and laid on course by Sunday.  The following LDLR was my first, and following that I got as involved with the trail builds as much as possible.  As the years have passed I've become a lot more involved, putting many hours into the course and now in a fortunate position to be able to sponsor this great event.  Over the years I've always got a lot out of the events, so enjoy giving back to trail building and adding more to the course for the following year.
